The Wylie softball team started their playoff march with a hard-fought two-game sweep of Lubbock Monterey, 6-4 and 10-7, in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs last weekend in Big Spring.

In Friday’s Game 1, WHS senior pitcher Avie Faries set the tone with a complete-game, seven strikeout performance in the pitching circle, and the offense provided four runs in the second and two more in the fourth for a 6-4 win.

Kinsley Turner and Wynslow Miller each went 2-4 on Friday, and Cameron Gregory added a double.

In Saturday’s Game 2, WHS overcame an early deficit with three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to take control and complete the sweep with a 10-7 win. Kinsley Turner paced the offense with a home run, a double and three runs batted in. Ella Bruning, Cameron Gregory and Wynslow Miller each had multiple hits while Shyla Thompson drove in three runs.

Shae McAllister earned the pitching win in relief going 2.2 innings and shutting the door on a Lady Plainsmen potential comeback.

The Lady Bulldogs (19-8) now move into the area round of the Class 5A Division 2 playoffs where they will play El Paso Del Valle. The three-game series starts Friday, May 2 at 3:00 pm CST with game 2 set for Saturday, May 3 beginning at 11:00 am CST. Game 3 will follow if necessary.

The series will be played at Fort Stockton High School.
