Wylie ISD and Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union is proud to recognize six Wylie High School students selected as the WHS Student-Athletes of the Month for May 2026.
Jathan Bishop
Senior
Jathan is a member on the regional finalist Wylie baseball varsity squad. He also says he participates at WHS as an overall amazing student. Jathan attends church at Beltway, and he’s been working at Coldstone Creamery for the past two years. Jathan plans to attend Tarleton State University in the fall of 2026, majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Business.
Ella Bruning
Junior
Ella is a three-year member of the Wylie varsity softball team, a regional finalist in 2026. She is also a member of the WHS National Honor Society and participates in FCA. She attends church at Beltway, works as an HteaO and volunteers in many places including Winter Light Fest, Candy Cane Lane, Hendrick Hospital, the Bulldog Protection Program and more. Ella wants to attend college at either Texas A&M or Abilene Christian University and study Psychology.
Gavin Castillo
Senior
Gavin is a member of the regional finalist Wylie varsity baseball team. He is also involved in the Purple Dog Company at WHS. After graduation, Gavin is set to attend Texas Tech University to major in accounting.
Avie Faries
Junior
Avie is a pitcher on the regional finalist Wylie varsity softball team. She is also a team member of the WHS Purple Dog Company. Away from school, she goes to church at Beltway, loves to meal prep and plays travel softball for Impact Gold Premier Bryant in the DFW area. After high school, Avie looks to continue her athletic and academic career at Temple College with hopes to either own a boutique/store, become a coach or be a MRI technician.
Mia Amor Martinez
Junior
Mia is a state qualifier for the Wylie varsity tennis program. She also competes at WHS in UIL Academics events including Accounting. Away from school, Mia volunteers with the tennis program at McMurry University, and she also dances at the Abilene Performing Arts Company. Mia plans to attend college and become a pilot.
James McCall
Junior
James is a state qualifier in tennis at WHS. He is also in upper-level art classes and competes in the VASE art competitions. James attends Southern Hills Church of Christ and is active in the youth group. He is also an avid outdoorsman and does basically everything in nature someone could think of including bowhunting, fishing, wildlife photography and just experiencing nature. James loves writing poetry and painting about my experiences with nature because he believes that God can be experienced through the peace of the wilderness. James plans to go to Colorado State University with a business major, and he is excited to help people connect with God through his gifts in whatever way that looks.
