The Wylie Bulldogs keep on truckin’ through the fall sports season.

WYLIE TENNIS IS STATE BOUND!

At the top is the tennis team, which qualified for the Class 5A state tournament for the third straight year. WHS won the Region I title in Wichita Falls with a 10-5 win over Amarillo after downing Frisco Lone Star 10-1.

The Bulldogs return to San Antonio as do the other three teams that made the 2025 tourney - three-time defending champion Frisco Centennial, College Station A&M Consolidated, and Corpus Christi Flour Bluff.

Wylie, the No. 1 ranked 5A team with only one loss this year, takes on A&M Consolidated at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday at Annmarie Tennis Center. The winner tests the survivor of the Centennial-Flour Bluff match at 8:25 a.m. Thursday at the same site.

Wylie last played on the Annmarie courts in the spring championship season in 2024, coach Adam Cherry noted.

Centennial beat Wylie 10-3 in the semifinals last year, and 10-2 in the 2025 final.

Centennial downed Region I winner Amarillo High 11-2 in the semifinals in 2024, then went on to win the first of its three straight championships.

Wylie is 23-1 this year, losing only 10-9 to Class 6A Coppell in a pre-district tourney.

CROSS COUNTRY: WYLIE BOYS, GIRLS REGIONAL QUALIFIERS

At Wichita Falls, Wylie took second in both boys and girls races at the 4-5A district meet at Lucy Park.

“I was very proud of the way the kids competed,” coach Jody Harvey said. “Four out of the five scored runners ran (personal bests). All I can ever ask of them is to do their best and that is what they did.”

Both teams will run at the Region I meet on Tuesday at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. The girls are on the course at 9 a.m., with the boys in the 5A race at 9:30.

“I’m really excited to see the regional qualifiers compete,” Harvey said.

Tucker Balliew took second in the boys’ race, clocking a 16:47.97 to finish just behind Abilene Cooper’s Jafari Mananganji (16:44.39).

Elijah Davis was eighth (17:26.03) while the Bulldogs took 12-14 - Luke Cardenias (17:45.40), Chance Robinson (17:55.13), and Landon Hicks (18:10.0).

In the varsity girls’ race, Amari Dudley was sixth in 19:50.77 to lead WHS.

Mya Fiero also made the top 10 at No. 10 (21:06.41). Layla Dambacher (21:38.98) and Allyson Schulle (21:48.37) were next in. The top 5 was rounded out by Emma Henao (22:08.93) and Lillea Schout (23:28.24).

Abilene High’s Aubrey Duran, a state qualifier last fall, won the girls’ race in 18:07.79, outrunning Cooper freshman Mia Garcia (18:28.10).

VOLLEYBALL: WHS WRAPS UP DISTRICT SCHEDULE THIS WEEK

The WHS volleyball this week finishes its District 4-5A schedule with two home matches.

Coach Shay Cox’s team takes on Abilene High at 6 p.m. Tuesday, then closes the regular season against rival Wichita Falls Memorial at 5 p.m. Friday.

Wylie previously took a 3-1 victory over Memorial in Wichita Falls.

The Bulldogs are 32-4 and most recently took 3-0 wins over Abilene Cooper and WF Legacy.

Wylie is ranked No. 7 in Class 5A. Memorial (29-7) comes in at No. 18.

FOOTBALL: PD BOUNCES THE BULLDOGS AT BIVINS

At Amarillo, Wylie is back at Sandifer Stadium to face Lubbock-Cooper after falling 53-10 to first-place Palo Duro at Dick Bivins Stadium.

Wylie led 3-0 after an almost 8-minute opening drive but the Dons (7-1, 4-0) scored the next 47 points to take command of the game on the first cool evening of football.

It was PD’s 10th straight district win; the Dons are the defending 2-5A champs.

Lubbock-Cooper won its first game, clobbering Coronado 48-6.

The Pirates won the 2025 against the Bulldogs 42-35 in Woodrow.

Wylie likely is battling for second place, with Abilene Cooper and the two Wichita Falls schools in the hunt. The Bulldogs still have to travel to Wichita Falls to take on Legacy, which lost last week to Abilene Cooper, which is the current second-place team.
