The Wylie boys soccer team continues their strong start to the 2023 season by winning two of three games in the Alvarado Tournament last weekend.

To open the tourney, the Bulldogs battled hard for the second time in three days versus San Angelo Lake View, falling to the undefeated Chiefs 2-1. WHS senior Ethan Carnes scored the Bulldogs goal during the contest.

Wylie then bounced back with two great wins starting with a 5-3 victory against Decatur. Freshman Isaiah Martinez scored two goals for the Bulldogs along with single goals by senior Liam Cisneros, senior Alen Canales on a free kick, and sophomore Jackson Corley. Freshman Noah Rehburg had three assists and Jonny Ramirez added one.

The Bulldogs finished the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Fort Worth Polytechnic. Canales scored twice on penalty kicks, and junior Payton Stone added a goal with an assist from Carnes.

The Bulldogs are off to a great start with an overall record of 5-4-1, losing only to undefeated teams. WHS has already surpassed last year's 3-win season.

“The tournament was a huge morale booster for these kids who are starting to click at the right time,” said WHS boys soccer coach Oscar Villeda.

The team is back on the pitch at Wichita Falls Rider this Friday, January 20. The match begins at 7:00 p.m.
