It was a Bulldog sweep of the Southtown Showdown on Friday as both the WHS soccer teams beat Abilene Cooper, the girls shutting out the Lady Cougars 6-0 and the boys winning 4-1.

The Lady Bulldogs were on the attack all night long and dominated the net in a 6-0 shutout of Cooper at the Shotwell Stadium annex. Kaylee Richardson led the way offensively with a hat trick (3 goals). Maly Wallem added to the scoring with 2 goals and Maci Hanson put in goal as well.

Bulldog assists on the six goals came from Hanson, Rozlyn Rumsey, Kaylee Richardson, Allie Allen and Brylee Ross.

Goalkeeper Avery Anders and the defensive backline including Rumsey, Sarah Williams, Chloe Williams, Karlie Currey, Lucy Fulton and Teagan Brown were impressive in securing the shutout.

On the boys side, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 4-1 district win over the Cougars.

Cade Fellows got the scoring started with an assist coming from Liam Cisneros. Alen Canales followed with the next two goals to build the 3-0 halftime lead. Isaiah Martinez added a second-half goal assisted by Lobo Enduki.

Goalkeeper Sawyer Thompson added 8 saves on the night.

“It was definitely our most complete game of the year,” said coach Oscar Villeda. “It’s always tough going against our Southtown rivals considering how well our kids know each other so it was really special for our group to pull out a win against them going into our Tuesday matchup with district leader Monterey.”

The teams return to action on Tuesday, February 7 vs Monterey. The boys play at Hugh Sandifer Stadium while the girls are in Lubbock. Both varsity matches begin at 5:00 p.m.
