It was a near-perfect start to the 2023 baseball season for the Wylie Bulldogs as WHS outscored four opponents by a combined 44-7 to go undefeated in the Iowa Park Tournament last weekend.
The only thing that cooled off the hot start to the season was bad weather on Friday which cancelled the team’s other two scheduled games.
The Bulldogs came out scorching on Thursday, beating Wichita Falls 15-3 and Burkburnett 15-0 in run-rule victories. After Friday’s rainout, WHS beat Midland Christian 3-2 and rounded out the weekend with a 11-2 win versus Paradise.
The pitching staff was solid all weekend as Hays Sipe, Carter Beard, Brady Clark and Tye Briscoe all picked up their first victory of the season on the mound. Collectively, Bulldog pitchers had 23 strikeouts during the weekend.
The bats collected 34 hits, nine of which were extra-base hits. Briscoe led the way at the plate with seven hits including two doubles, a triple and a home run. Braden Regala had six hits on the weekend as well.
Wylie is 4-0 on the early season, and they are back to tournament play this weekend, March 2-4 at the Godley-Stephenville-Glen Rose Tournament.
