It was a night of milestones for the Wylie softball team as WHS Head Coach Heather Collier claimed her 400th career victory last night and the Lady Bulldogs opened District 4-5A play with a 6-4 win over Abilene High.

Mycala Reed and Jadyn Fernandez each blasted home runs on the night as the Wylie offense collected 10 total hits. WHS scored three runs in the first inning, one more in the second and two in the fourth. Fernandez led the way with four hits while Reed and teammate Halli Russell collected two hits apiece.

The early WHS lead proved to be enough for senior pitcher Reese Farrar – a Lubbock Christian University signee – as she threw a complete game and collected nine strikeouts in the win.

The final out of the night, Farrar’s ninth and final strikeout, was the senior’s 300th strikeout in a Wylie uniform.

The 400th win in Coach Collier’s career has the Lady Bulldogs (16-4) in the early lead of the District 4-5A standings at 1-0. WHS returns to the diamond this Friday, March 10 in a non-district game at home versus Lamesa. The varsity is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
