On a night when opportunity presented itself, the Wylie softball team took advantage of the opportunity.

The home-team Lady Bulldogs scored the first six runs of the night and held on late to beat the district leader and previously unbeaten Monterey Lady Plainsmen 6-4 on Tuesday night.

The win pulls WHS back to within one game of first place with three games to play.

Wylie scored a single run in the fourth inning and exploded for five more in the fifth to build a 6-0 lead. That combined with a dominant performance from starting pitcher Rylee Moore in the circle - 6.1 innings and eight strikeouts – proved to be a successful combination. In the seventh, Reese Farrar came in to relieve Moore and promptly shut the door on a MHS rally to seal the win.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 23-6 overall and 7-2 in District 4-5A, one game behind Monterey. WHS returns to the diamond on Friday, April 14 at Lubbock High. The varsity is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
