Congratulations to the Wylie girls golf team who capped off a great 2023 season with a sixth place finish out of 16 teams at the Region 1-5A golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Rawls Course in Lubbock.

Against a tough course in the windy west Texas winds, the team shot a two-day team total of 736 (368-368) to finish in sixth.

“As a coach, I am super proud of my girls,” Wylie coach Justin Jarrett told the Abilene Reporter News. “They did an amazing job staying composed and competing with good competition. I had a goal of beating half the field in my head, and we accomplished just that by finishing sixth. When you have teams like Argyle and Aledo in your region, you know the competition is going to be tough.”

Individually, Amelie Liew followed up her district championship with a tenth-place finish at regionals after a two-day total of 161 (81-80). Teammates Kierra Fierro (172), Brighton Diller (190), Zoey Anzaldua (215) and Linden Smalley (216) all contributed well to the team and the season success.

“I am just so happy we were able to make it (to region) as a team with sophomores and freshmen," Jarrett added. “What a big step towards our future. All the girls played so hard and did as I asked.”
